“Sunday Train” is I IV V blues. It’s a lot of fun and was easy to write. I’ve got a bunch of these. I usually go for humor with blues songs. You’ll also notice the happy ending in this one which is a little more out of character for me. The “cool shoes” line is a nod to a band I performed this song with. We were called “Cool Man Shoe”
You may hear some distorted wind sound in the background, but that’s how you know it’s live and uncut. Oh, and there are some really big birds “cawing” above me. The sun is right in my face making me all happy and warm.

Sunday Train by Frankie Ghee
I thought about you Monday morning
Just as it came to rain
And I thought about you Tuesday morning
As my dreams went down the drain
I might have called you on Wednesday but I knew you wouldn’t take the blame
So I bought a new car on Thursday
Thinking it would ease the pain
But I took it too far on Friday
And I’ve been polishing up my aim
If I were in your shoes, baby
I’d put my feet on a Sunday Train
Chorus:
I’d take the Sunday Train out in the pouring rain
Although you might get wet
You wont forget
How if you break a heart to pieces
You’ve got a price to pay
If I were in your shoes baby
I’d put my feet on a Sunday train
I spent the whole week crying
Things would never be the same
And I listened to you denying
Every promise that you ever made
If I were in your shoes baby
I’d put my feet on a Sunday train
Chorus
I started feeling better come Monday
I had a song to sing again
And by Tuesday I was dreaming
About a life without all that pain
And by Wednesday, I was thinking
That my heartache wasn’t all in vain
So I bought my ticket on a Thursday
On the minute that the good news came
Packed my bags up on Friday
I couldn’t wait to get out on my way
I’ll get up early in the morning
And put my feet on a Sunday Train
I’ll take the Sunday train out in the pouring rain
Although I might get wet, I wont regret
How I loved you just a little
And gave my heart a change
I’m gonna shine my new shoes
And put my feet on a Sunday train
I’m gonna shine my Cool Shoes
And put my feet on a Sunday Train

This is one of my favorite jazz standards. We recorded live this morning in Manito Park. It was a beautiful day to be outside singing.
You may hear some distorted wind sound in the background, but that’s how you know it’s live and uncut. Oh, and there are some really big birds “cawing” above me. Very, Very cool.
Please let me know if you want more Jazz. It is one of my favorite musical outlets. I am working on some original jazz as well.

This is recorded live and outdoors, so the wind does become an issue for a few seconds, but then it goes away.
This was recorded July 7, 2015 in Manito Park, Spokane, Wa. I wrote this when I was still only 48! It’s supposed to be funny.
You Make Me Feel Young by Frankie Ghee
When I’m with you, I feel forty-two
Although I’m really forty-nine
Baby
You make me feel young
Baby
Now I always feel young
Baby
When I’m with you, I feel beautiful although I’m
Really nothin’ special
Baby
You make me feel so exotic
Baby
Now I always feel exotic
And I always feel young
Baby
When I’m with you, I feel like I know the answers
Even though I’m staring blankly
Baby
You make me feel like a genius
Baby
Now I always feel exotic
And I always feel young
And I always feel like a genius
Baby

This is My Country
This is my country
And I am so grateful
To have lived in a time when I am safe and free
I am safe to dream
And I am free to try
To change my world with hope and speak as I believe
And I am lucky I know to rest my feet on this soil
And take as owed to me
My rights and my liberty
Through proud and shameful history
This is what we have come to be
We have grown into this nation free of kings
Peace and great prosperity
Famine, war and travesity
Have forged the tools that we might shape our destiny
How many people had to die
So that I could live this life
If they knew how I would would they even try
How many people sold their souls
So I could spend this pot of gold
Would they pay the price if they knew what I would buy
“Final Flight” Slightly dark #Poetry #Decisions that define us
Sometimes, a single choice can change a life’s course. What decisions have shaped you?
slipped away from a sitter
wrapped in high school intrigue
a controversy over something
some life altering teenage circumstance
that required non-stop video chat
all of them at least three times before
full speed
down the hall and out the open door
up, up and away
heaved me up and sent me flying
first soaring like a motorized bird
off the porch and over seven steep stairs
then plummeting like a stone sack
landed me bloodied
broken and blinded
completely conscious on the sidewalk
and three deeper hurts, head, hip, and hope
that would require a lifelong diet of medications
anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant
and keep me limping, literally and metaphorically
mentally, physically and emotionally
trapped in darkness
never able to run
I made that one spectacular leap
and never made a second one

#Winter #Poetry #Spokane It is so hot I thought I would share some poems from winter. #Enjoy the green grass on this side of the fence! Summer Rocks
LAST COUGH
I witness and embrace the last throws of winter
This strong, long season that will not go gently
Into the good light of spring
Which clings and clutches
With crystal paws
And icy claws
Freezing the hopeful buds
Nurturing to full blown
Diseases of respiration
And so in celebration
Of season tenacious and old
I cough and cough and struggle to breath
My cheer a rasp
A screaming full throated whisper
“All hail Winter
Long live the king of Colds”
Frankie Valinda Ghee
Casualties of Winter
With the spring came sunshine
And rain
April brought a brand new wrinkle
And grayer hair
I started a new workout routine
And lost a friend
Summer was a furnace
The grass turned deeper green
And the neighbors kept watering
And mowing
I started wondering
“Why are we here?”
Autumn was dingy
And brilliant
Vibrant colors that told of death
Box Elder bugs came into the house
I made plans
I was going to “fix me”
But as it got colder
And colder
The snow fell, pointless and clean
All my plans
Wonderings
And routines
Became ice
In the stillness
In the thundering warmth
Of my space heater
Everything died
And left me open minded

#Purity #Perception
Purity is the moment
When before deciding
A thing or person is
good or bad
ugly or lovely
us or them
You realize
It
They
Are
They exist
And in that first single instant
Of pure perception
The existence of that new being
Is okay with you
#Spokane #StreetMusic #LiveMusic Look for me in the hot hotness this afternoon on the #SouthHill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGyS-pwzqwQ
Hey All
I’m looking forward to sitting in one of my usual shady spots on the South Hill. Look for me outside of Rite Aid on 29th. I’ll probably start playing around 5pm or so. There is a bench nearby, so you can sit and hang out. If I’m not there, check for me outside of the Dollar Tree across the street.
Being able to sit outside and play is one of the best things about summer.
This link is from last year.

The Double Standard #Poetry #Spokane should there be a double standard for speech?
The Double Standard
Are some actions contemptible
No matter who takes them
Are some words reprehensible
No matter who speaks them
Or
Do we need the double standard
Let the victims victimize
For humor
For art
For segregation
Perks of membership?
Shouldn’t I
If the abused child
Be allowed to raise with torture
My child
Because I own that pain
Because I earned that name
Right?
The beating won’t hurt
When it comes from me
Shouldn’t I
If a victim of rape
Be uncensored when claiming
That it is always
The woman’s fault
Aren’t I allowed this violation
Because I own that pain
Because I earned that name
Right?
The beating won’t hurt
When it comes from me
As long as this is my pain
Not the pain
Of “some of my closest friends”
Who gave me license
By silent complicity
To act on their behalf
With my lack of sensitivity
Free from the scourge
Of
“Political correctness”
Right?
Can’t I preach that my race
Or hair color
My sex
Or land of origin
Makes me stupid
Less civilized
Greedy
Poor
Or wretched?
Can’t I generalize to all of “my people”
Because “we” know what “we” mean
And how “we” feel
If I call you a nigger
And we are black
There is no problem
Right?
Because I know that pain
I have earned that name
Right?
The beating won’t hurt
When it comes from me
Don’t we need the double standard?
